Η Ένωση Θεσσαλονικέων “Ο Λευκός Πύργος” την Κυριακή 3 Δεκεμβρίου 2017, διοργάνωσε εκδήλωση για τις οικογένειες μέλη. Στην εκδήλωση αυτή ο Άγιος Βασίλης που παρευρέθηκε παρέδωσε δώρα στα μικρά παιδιά.
Η Ένωση ευχαριστεί τις κυρίες που μάζεψαν τα δώρα, τα πακετάρησαν και έβαλαν τα ονόματα των παιδιών επάνω. Επίσης ευχαριστούμε τις κυρίες και τους κύριους που στόλισαν την αίθουσα για να υποδεχτούν τα παιδιά. Continue reading “O Άγιος Βασίλης το 2017”
The Thessaloniki Association’s organised activities marking the 33rd Anniversary of Sister-Cities Melbourne and Thessaloniki were another great success for the organisation.
The Gala Dinner on November 25th as well as the Festival at Fed Square on Sunday 26th November were visited and enjoyed by thousands of Melburnians. The Greek and Australian Flags were present alongside the footpath where St. Kilda Rd meets Swanston Street and $4000 were donated to the Alphington Grammar school of the proceeds of the Dinner. Thessaloniki Association “The White Tower” in co-operation with the Battle of Crete and the Greek Campaign Commemorative Council organised another successful event in Melbourne on Monday 6th November 2017 and at Denmark House (Danish Consulate in Melbourne). The hosts were lead by the Honorary Consul General of Denmark to Melbourne Mr Jan Ravnholt.
There were a number of VIP attending the event, including his Excellency the Ambassador of Denmark to Australia Mr Tom Norring and his lovely wife (of Greek background, from Thessaloniki), Mr Ross Alatsas Deputy Chair at the Victorian Multicultural Commission, the Consul General Mr Jan Ravnholt and his also lovely wife, Mr & Mrs Paul and Toula Mavroudis OAM, Mrs Maria Dikaiou President Modern Greek Teachers Association of Victoria, Mrs Maria Gidarakou, from the Greek Consulate in Melbourne representing the Consul General Mrs Christina Simantiraki, Mr Lee Tarlamis Lemnos Gallipoli Commemorative Committee, Mr Bill Papastergiadis President Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne, Mr John Pandazopoulos former State Minister in Victoria, Mr Steve Kyritsis President Greek RSL in Melbourne, Lt. Colonel (retired) Athanasios Masouras, Mrs Litsa Athanasiadis President Pontian Community of Melbourne and others including some war veterans from both communities the Danish and Greek. Thessaloniki Association was represented at a very important meeting in the offices of the Municipality of the City of Thessaloniki, on July 14th, 2017, by the President Mr Paul Mavroudis and the Vice-President Mr Iakovos Garivaldis.
The meeting was also attended by Steve Dimopoulos MP (member for Oakleigh, Chair of the Mental Health Expert Taskforce and is a member of the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee), Nick Staikos MP (Member for Bentleigh), John Pandazopoulos, past Minister of Victoria, Judith Graley MP Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Training and Ros Spence MP Parliamentary Secretary for Public Transport. Στις 11 Ιουνίου 2017, η Ένωση Θεσσαλονικέων “Ο Λευκός Πύργος” διοργάνωσε ημερήσια εκδρομή μελών και μη στο πανέμορφο Healesville της Βικτώρια. Περίπου σαράντα μέλη ανταποκρίθηκαν και με το λεωφορείο των Tullamarine Bus Lines, επισκέφτηκαν διάφορα εργοστάσια οινοποιίας απολαμβάνοντας τον υπέροχο καιρό στην εξοχή. Θέλουμε να ευχαριστήσουμε θερμά την εταιρεία Tullamarine Bus Lines του κυρίου Συκαβίτσα που ανταποκρίνεται στο κάλεσμα της Ένωσης με την επαγγελματικότητα που τους διακρίνει. Anders Fredrik Emil Victor Schau Lassen born Høvdingsgård, Denmark 22nd September 1920, the son of Emil Victor Schau Lassen and Suzanne Maria Signe Lassen, of Nyhavn, Copenhagen.
He was a first cousin of Axel von dem Bussche, a German Resistance member who unsuccessfully tried to kill Adolf Hitler in 1943.
Serving with the Danish Merchant Navy, Anders came to Britain in the early days of the Second World War. He joined the British Commandos in 1940, serving with No. 62 Commando (also known as the Small Scale Raiding Force) as a private. Continue reading “Major Anders Lassen”

ΧΟΡΟΕΣΠΕΡΙΔΑ ΠΡΟΣ ΕΝΙΣΧΥΣΗ ΤΟΥ KΡΑΤΙΚΟΥ ΘΕΑΤΡΟΥ Θεσσαλονίκης
Η Ένωση Θεσσαλονικέων “Ο Λευκός Πύργος” διοργάνωσε χοροεσπερίδα στο κτίριό της στο Northcote, στις 29 Απριλίου 2017 προς οικονομική ενίσχυση του Κρατικού Θεάτρου Βορείου Ελλάδος – Θεάτρου Δάσους της Θεσσαλονίκης που βρίσκεται στο Σέιχ Σού.
Το ΚΘΒΕ ιδρύθηκε το 1961 και εγκαινίασε τη δραστηριότητά του το καλοκαίρι της ίδιας χρονιάς με παραστάσεις της τραγωδίας του Σοφοκλή “Οιδίπους Τύραννος“, στο αρχαίο θέατρο των Φιλίππων.

As it was previously announced to media outlets, Thessaloniki City Council has decided to name the square bound by Stathmou and Anagenniseos Strs in Thessaloniki as “Melbourne Square”.
This has become a reality after the idea was floated to the City of Thessaloniki by Thessaloniki Association “The White Tower” of Melbourne during the Presidency of Mr Paul Mavroudis OAM and Public Relations Officer Mr Iakovos Garivaldis OAM. Continue reading “Melbourne Square in Europe”
Recently I visited the impressive war memorial in Balwyn. It stands like a miniature cenotaph on the top of the hill which is surrounds the gardens which form Beckett Park in Melbourne’s eastern suburb of Balwyn.According to the Monuments Australia website, the Balwyn War Memorial was unveiled by Brigadier-General Brand on the 24th May 1919. The monument at the time of the unveiling contained the names of 146 soldiers and two nurses.
The memorial contains the names of the residents of north war in the City of Camberwell who fought in World War One.
