Annual Sister Cities Festival 2013

The 29th Anniversary of the Sister Cities Thessaloniki and Melbourne was met with much enthusiasm from the Thessaloniki Association members, friends, Greek, Scottish and Serbian dancing groups who participated. The Festival was held at the centre of the business district of Melbourne Federation Square which sits next to the Yarra River the most talked about and historic river of the City of Melbourne, on Sunday 24th November 2013.

According to Federation Square statistics more than 42 thousand people witnessed the multicultural program offered on the day. Many dignitaries from the City of Melbourne, the State Government and the Opposition, as well as the Greek Consulate honoured the event and addressed the people present. Master of Ceremonies for this event was Mr Iakovos Garivaldis from Thessaloniki Association, whilst the Manasis Dancing group Director Deon Manasis organised the program and the dancing groups for the day.

Proceedings started at 12.00 midday  and went on for about eight hours after that. All said, this has been another successful event organised by Thessaloniki Association “The White Tower”. The Festival has been the peak of the events for this year and we’re happy that the City of Melbourne, the Victorian Multicultural Commission and many Greek Community Sponsors (including Delphi Bank) supported it.

Η Ένωση Θεσσαλονικέων στα πλαίσια της επετείου των 29 Χρόνων από την Αδελφοποίηση των δύο πόλεων Θεσσαλονίκης και Μελβούρνης διοργάνωσε το ετήσιο Φεστιβάλ της στις 24 Νοεμβρίου 2013, στο κέντρο της πόλης της Μελβούρνης. Το Φεστιβάλ παρακολούθησαν πάνω από 42 χιλιάδες κόσμου, σύμφωνα με τα στατιστικά στοιχεία του Federation Square, παρ’ όλη την αστάθεια των καιρικών συνθηκών.

Το πρόγραμμα των χορευτικών συγκροτημάτων του Φεστιβάλ 2013 συντόνισε με μεγάλη επιτυχία ο Δημοσθένης Μανασής, του χορευτικού συγκροτήματος και σχολής χορού ΜΑΝΑΣΗ της Μελβούρνης.
