Thessaloniki Association “The White Tower” honored Mother’s Day for 2026 with distinctive splendor and deep emotion, through a well-attended event that combined celebration with historical memory. The day’s program, in addition to the rich luncheon enjoyed by all participants, included a special moment of recognition and honor for the former Treasurer of the Association, Mr. Christos Mitsios, for his many years of selfless service. The function concluded in a particularly moving atmosphere, as five members of the association shared true, poignant stories from their lives, highlighting the heroic and loving presence of their own mothers during the most difficult moments of their journeys. A central point of the evening was the presentation of a flower pot each to the youngest and oldest mother of the event, as a token of respect and recognition for their contribution. Standing by their side to frame this beautiful moment were the President of the Thessaloniki Association, Mr. Paul Mavroudis OAM, and the Vice-President, Mr. Iakovos Garivaldis OAM. This symbolic presentation bridged the past with the future, reminding everyone that motherhood is the unbreakable link that keeps the Greek family and the diaspora in Australia cohesive and vibrant. As such the youngest mother present Hon Kat Theophanous MP State Member of the Labor Party for Northcote and Mrs Sophia aged more than 90 years were selected and offered the Association’s respect. However, this year’s celebration acquired a deeper, national dimension, as it was inextricably linked to the upcoming solemn anniversary of the Greek Pontian Genocide in two days on May 19th. Grounded in the recognition of the true and ancestral owners of Asia Minor and the Hellenism of the East, the event highlighted the Asia Minor and Pontian Mother as the ultimate heroines of our history. It was these mothers who, amidst the maelstrom of uprooting, death, and persecution, held the future of our nation alive in their arms, passing on the language, the faith, and the unquenchable memory of the lost homelands to the next generations.

Η Ένωση Θεσσαλονικέων «Ο Λευκός Πύργος» τίμησε με ιδιαίτερη λαμπρότητα και βαθιά συγκίνηση την Ημέρα της Μητέρας για το 2026, μέσα από μια πολυπληθή εκδήλωση που συνδύασε τον εορτασμό με την ιστορική μνήμη. Το πρόγραμμα της ημέρας, εκτός από το πλούσιο γεύμα που απόλαυσαν όλοι οι παρευρισκόμενοι, περιλάμβανε μια ξεχωριστή στιγμή αναγνώρισης και τιμής προς τον πρώην Ταμία της Ένωσης, κ. Χρήστο Μήτσιο, για την πολυετή και ανιδιοτελή προσφορά του. Η εκδήλωση ολοκληρώθηκε σε ιδιαίτερα φορτισμένο κλίμα, καθώς πέντε μέλη του συλλόγου μοιράστηκαν με το κοινό αληθινές, συγκλονιστικές ιστορίες από τη ζωή τους, αναδεικνύοντας την ηρωική και γεμάτη αγάπη παρουσία της δικής τους μάνας στις πιο δύσκολες στιγμές της πορείας τους. Κεντρικό σημείο της βραδιάς αποτέλεσε η βράβευση της νεότερης και της γηραιότερης μητέρας της εκδήλωσης, στις οποίες προσφέρθηκε από μια γλάστρα με λουλούδια ως ελάχιστο δείγμα σεβασμού και αναγνώρισης της προσφοράς τους. Στο πλευρό τους, πλαισιώνοντας αυτή την όμορφη στιγμή, στάθηκαν ο Πρόεδρος της Ένωσης Θεσσαλονικέων, κ. Παύλος Μαυρουδής OAM, και ο Αντιπρόεδρος, κ. Ιάκωβος Γαριβάλδης OAM. Η συμβολική αυτή βράβευση γεφύρωσε το παρελθόν με το μέλλον, υπενθυμίζοντας σε όλους ότι η μητρότητα αποτελεί τον αδιάσπαστο κρίκο που κρατά συμπαγή και ζωντανή την ελληνική οικογένεια και την ομογένεια στην Αυστραλία. Ωστόσο, ο φετινός εορτασμός απέκτησε μια βαθύτερη, εθνική διάσταση, καθώς συνδέθηκε άρρηκτα με τη συμπλήρωση δύο ημερών από τη θλιβερή επέτειο της Γενοκτονίας του Ποντιακού Ελληνισμού στις 19 Μαΐου. Μέσα από το σκεπτικό της αναγνώρισης των πραγματικών και προαιώνιων ιδιοκτητών της Μικράς Ασίας και της καθ’ ημάς Ανατολής, η εκδήλωση ανέδειξε τη Μικρασιάτισσα και την Πόντια Μητέρα ως τις απόλυτες ηρωίδες της ιστορίας μας. Ήταν εκείνες οι μάνες που μέσα στη λαίλαπα του ξεριζωμού, του θανάτου και των διωγμών, κράτησαν στην αγκαλιά τους ζωντανό το μέλλον του γένους, μεταλαμπαδεύοντας στις επόμενες γενιές τη γλώσσα, την πίστη και την άσβεστη μνήμη των χαμένων πατρίδων.
